Beauty Without Compromise: Beauty Doesn’t Have to Equal Pain

As women, we want to look, feel, and be beautiful. Often times we’re willing to do just about anything for that feeling. Sometimes anything comes at a cost, whether that price involves money or pain.

According to a poll of 1,000 women by the makers of Sensodyne® TrueWhite®, 1 in 4 women strongly or somewhat agree that they will suffer through painful beauty regimens because the end result is worth it.

I am that 1 in 4.

I’ve done so much in the past, and continue to do things, in the pursuit of beauty. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned that I no longer have to make sacrifices in the name of beauty.

It doesn’t have to hurt or cost a fortune. Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest impact in our appearance.

In my 30-something years pursuing beauty, I’ve done quite a bit for the sake of looking beautiful. Laser eye surgery, burning my gums with whitening gel from the dentist, burning my skin from tanning beds, and using chemicals to color and highlight my hair. Not to mention that one dreadful perm when I was 8.

And hands down the most painful things I’ve done in the pursuit of beauty. Getting my breast augmentation surgery and Coolscupting on flanks.

Hair removal has also been a common theme in my life. I color my hair blonde but am naturally a brunette.

Although I’m not even sure of my natural color anymore because I haven’t seen it in so long. So my body hair is dark.

Just like the hair on my head, it’s thick which means lots of stubborn, coarse hairs in need of removal. Shaving is a daily part of my routine and has involved nicks, cuts, scars, and razor burn.

For the areas I don’t want to shave but don’t want permanently removed, I’ve tweezed. Yanking hair from the root, especially near your eyes is not for the faint of heart.

And for my bikini areas and places I hope the hair is removed permanently, I’ve done laser hair removal. If you’ve never had this done, it’s the equivalent of hot rubber band snaps in rapid-fire succession over some tender spots for 15 minutes.

Ouch!

The things we do for beauty hurt pretty bad sometimes. And I can only imagine how many more painful routines I would have, and still might, go through with more money to spend.

All of those procedures that celebrities are getting that seem to be effective come at a price…monetary and pain-wise.
