Learn how to save money eating out with this one tip!

Big changes are afoot around here. Y’all know my mother-in-law has been living with us for the past four months. Exciting news as of this week, she’s now under contract on a house!

There’s a big cost of living difference between Austin and where she came from in Missouri. It’s nearly impossible to find anything decent within budget that’s actually close too.

Maybe an hour away, but if you think about it an hour away might as well be the 11 hours it was before because we’ll hardly ever see her and that’s totally missing the point.

So we’ll be partnering with her on this new property. It’s an exciting time but at the same time, the thought of taking on another payment gives me a little anxiety but I know it’s nothing we can’t handle with some better budgeting.

This couldn’t have come at a more perfect time since we just started taking Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. Our weakest area that we could really stand to get in line is our eating out budget.

Or, rather lack thereof.

We’ve tried in the past to dedicate a set amount to eating out and then just blow on past it without a second thought. Until the next month when we notice just how much we’ve spent.

We don’t want or intend to cut eating out altogether but get it to a more reasonable level. We need to be more strategic about when and where we eat out so in an effort to save money while still enjoying ourselves, we set out to find how to save money eating out.

I’ve used the Groupon app to get discounts on laser hair removal or shellac manicures but now they have this cool new feature I want to share with you. Instead of presenting a printed or digital Groupon at checkout, you can claim a dining deal for free and it’ll connect to the credit card you plan to use with Groupon’s new voucherless cash-back deals!

How simple is that?

This is a little backwards, but for some reason when I go to more expensive places I feel out of place handing over a coupon. Why is it ok to save money on smaller purchases, but not where it matters the most like on the big ones.

So for our date night last weekend, we went to Izumi Sushi and no one was the wiser that I was saving money. And the cash back rebate to my card was almost instantaneous! I received an email on our ride home saying the cash back had been applied to my card.
