My connection with the United States military runs deep as I have come into contact with many members of the armed forces in my lifetime. I have countless family members that have honorably served in the military and continue to serve today. To date, I’ve had family or friends serve in each branch of the military and would happily serve again if necessary.
Those that have touched me deepest with their unparallelled commitment to service and patriotism are those closest to me and all have faithfully served their country as members of the United States Air Force. My Paw Paw served in the U.S. military and is a veteran of the Korean War. My mom grew up as an Air Force brat and married twice – each husband was an active duty member of the armed forces – one Marines and the other Air Force. My sister married an airmen in the Air Force and I had several friends that also found their mates from within the ranks of the military. I met my husband when he was dutifully serving his country in the Air Force and working under the guidance of my dad. Obviously with so many connections to the military, I’m a strong supporter and advocate and continue to have to connections with those that are serving or have served.
To me the military means loyalty, security, and reliance. Those that serve our country sacrifice their own needs in order to protect our country from all enemies. Their lives and those of their families are not always easy as the mission to protect comes first. Orders are given and received without comment or complaint and fulfilled without displays of gratitude. Their job is to serve and protect and they do so knowing that they will not be celebrated and appreciated for their silents, continuous acts of heroism. While all duties are not overtly dangerous, their focus and responsibility is to serve and protect the freedom of the citizens of our country and that alone draws a target on each members back. Without the faithfulness of military members, life as we know it would be forever changed and for all members of the armed forces and veterans I am eternally grateful for your service in protecting my way of life.
