Tips to Grow Hair Faster

I have always had deceptively thick hair. Throughout the year’s stylists would assume my fine hair was thin when it actually took effort to make it appear that way.

I’m not even sure where my thick head of hair came from. My mom and her mom were always searching for tips to grow hair faster because their hair was and still is baby fine and super thin.

Rewind to two years ago and my thick hair wasn’t quite so thick. Panic set in. I was losing a ton of hair. So what happened?

Why my hair fell out

I’ve struggled with being super tired every day since I was a teenager. My biggest complaint at doctor’s appointments is how little energy I have.

My doctors have done all the testing and are at a loss. I’ve had my thyroid checked, testing for iron deficiencies and mono and nothing ever shows up that explains what is causing the issue.

Two years ago at my annual, I mentioned yet again how tired I am. This time the doctor immediately suggested a new diagnosis. Her theory was I could have really low testosterone levels that made me easily fatigued.

The blood work showed my testosterone levels were at the absolute lowest level. I was pretty ecstatic to have a diagnosis and hope. My two options for treatment were an implant into my hip with extended-release granules or the much more affordable option of testosterone cream.

I told the doctor my hesitations about starting the treatment since I have adult acne and testosterone is known to aggravate that. She assured me that I was on a low enough dose that it should help boost my energy but not make my acne any worse.

That sounded like a dream! I was pretty wary of possible side effects and the price of the implanted testosterone.  Not to mention a little creeped out by the implant process. I went with what seemed like the safer and cheaper option of the two…testosterone cream.

I only used the testosterone cream as directed for 6 weeks before taking myself off of it. My energy increased, but only slightly. And I was concerned about all of the side effects. I had a receding hairline, overall hair loss on my head, facial hair growth, and an irregular period. My period usually came every 28-32 days, but on the testosterone, it didn’t show up for 54 days.

This is me. After testosterone wreaked havoc causing hair loss and acne.

This was not ok. This is not ok. I was used to having thick hair and it thinned considerably in 6 weeks, it’s alarming! Two years later, I’m still battling with the lasting effects my short stint with testosterone did to my body.

After a lot of research and trials, I’ve finally come up with a list of 5 Tips to Grow Hair Faster that are getting me back to the full head of thick, healthy locks I’ve always had. I know I’m not the only one that has or currently struggles with this.

There are so many things that can cause your hair to thin or growth to slow down. From hormone changes due to pregnancy or menopause to poor quality products or diet, every woman wants beautiful hair and to grow hair faster without waiting.

5 Ways to Grow Hair Faster

1. Eat a healthy diet.

A balanced diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts like almonds and walnuts, lean proteins, as well as healthy fats like those found in avocados give your body the tools it needs to produce healthy strands of hair. Here are some more foods to eat for healthy hair.

2. Try hair growth supplements.

Since the hair loss, I’ve switched from my ill-advised doctor to a new one. I also started seeing a dermatologist for my aggravated acne and my hair loss concerns. She assured me that our hair goes through different phases of growth and my loss likely just coincided with a resting phase. Bummer for me at the time but the good news is she assured me it wasn’t permanent. My dermatologist also recommended I start a hair growth supplement like this one.

3. Avoid stress.

Stress to your body and stress to your hair. This one is easier said than done. I’m a fan of highlighting my hair and addicted to hair tools but both chemicals and heat styling can wreak havoc on your hair. Both cause damage and worse yet, breakage. If you do chemically treat your hair, make sure to visit a professional.

4. Choose the right products.

When styling your hair, a heat protectant will minimize the harmful damage. And if you use some dry shampoo, you can reduce the amount of heat styling you do as well. It saves me time and saves my hair from extra damage!

Depending on your budget, I recommend this salon dry shampoo and this drugstore dry shampoo. And this drugstore heat protectant and this salon heat protectant

5. Get a trim.

This is the one that I probably struggle with the most, but your hair needs frequent trends in order to grow without split ins. Hairstylists suggest trims every 4-6 weeks for best results but you could probably stretch this to 8 weeks if you were vigilant about protecting your hair between visits.

Me? I end up waiting until 12 weeks. By then I’m usually destined to take at least a half inch off because I always tell the stylist to remove the dead stuff and shape up my hair so it looks healthy. Get ahead of the game and grow your hair faster by going in the 4-8 week range.
