Best Dog Treats for Furbabies

When people ask how many kids I have most times I say two. But truth be told, I really have three. You see my English Bulldog, Dude, is more like my child than just a pet.

From the time he joined our family at 7 weeks old and a wee 8 pounds, we’ve had a special connection with Dude and he’s been like a child. And we’ve always treated him like that. Dude sleeps in our bed, swims in the girls inflatable pool, needs his nose wiped, and all 70 pounds of him finds security sitting in my lap during thunderstorms.

Just like with our human children, we only want the best for Dude. As part of the family, this means he goes where we go. Since snub nosed dogs like Dude have a hard time flying, we drive wherever we go. To the tune of 32,000 miles in less than 2 years. We put in extra effort with planning our accommodations whether it’s staying in a pet friendly rental or with family so that the entire family is comfortable, including Dude. In the rare event he hasn’t been able to join us, we’ve never boarded him but left him in the care of his Nana and Papa.

You can imagine if we invest so much in Dude’s comfort and happiness, we pay the same attention to his diet needs as well. I’ve mentioned before how Dude suffers from allergies, so we’re pretty cautious about trying new products. I’ve tried making dog treats and even dog cakes before, but I really don’t have a lot of time for that right now. So while the girls were making the obligatory visit to see the fish in the pet department at Walmart last week, I found these new FDA dog treats called Nudges that looked like a perfect for him.

I love to support products like Nudges that are made in the USA. But what makes me feel even better about Nudges, is that they sound like a perfect fit for my allergy riddled Dude – free of fillers and artificial flavors, and made with American meats. I picked up the Steakhouse Beef and Roasted Chicken Nudges from the Vitamin Essentials line which includes 11 essential vitamins but next time I’m eager to try out the Bone & Joint formula which has glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate to help with his 7-year-old hips.

Bulldogs have a shorter lifespan than a lot of other breeds, living only 8-10 years on average. We lost our first bully baby, Stoli, at 7 so while we’ve used treats in the past for positive reinforcement dog training, at this senior stage in Dude’s life we’re using Nudges as a special treat. I can tell you first hand that these treats would be amazing for dog training as Dude goes crazy when they’re around. We’ll be heading out on a family trip in just a few weeks and Nudges will definitely be making their way into the truck for Dude’s road trip snack!
