5 Must-Haves for Traveling on Holidays

Traveling during the holidays? Simplify life while enjoying the experience with these 5 Must-Haves for Traveling on Holidays. These tips were sponsored in partnership with Babbleboxx.

We never intended to be living in our RV as long as we have been. It was only supposed to be 3-4 months. It’s now been 6.

The holidays are right around the corner. We’ll definitely still be RVing it for Thanksgiving. At this point, it’s looking more and more like it for Christmas too.

Living in an RV during the holidays requires a certain amount of flexibility. Things are not quite like they are in a house. It needs to be simple, easy to make, and easy to clean/store.

However, it doesn’t mean you can’t have a fun or similar thanksgiving experience. It’s just a little different. So, if you’re RVing as well, or even just traveling, here are some tips for celebrating Thanksgiving away from home.

Keep it simple.

Traveling can be stressful enough, so don’t allow celebrating the holidays while you’re away from home to add to the stress. Keep things simple and enjoy the experience.

This likely means scaling back your usual holiday spread. You no longer have to make enough food to accommodate a huge crowd, just your family or traveling companions.

Modify for smaller spaces and/or travel.

Bring what you’re able to or buy when you get there. You may not have all of the traditional dishes you’re accustomed to, but you can find something that will work and still be festive and delicious.

Don’t stress.

Thanksgiving will not look like the production it is when the entire family is attending. And it shouldn’t.

That’s the beauty of traveling during the holidays. You can still have a beautiful experience that’s different than the norm.

You’re making memories by taking a non-traditional approach to the holidays away from home. For the ultimate low-stress holiday, go to a restaurant. No prepping, shopping, cooking, or cleaning involved allows for more time together with your loved ones.

5 Must-Haves for Traveling on Holidays

1. Wine

The holidays aren’t complete without wine. You can bring your own with you or grab some at your destination.

Whether hosting a large crowd or traveling with a small group of friends or family, I always go with two bottles of wine. A white and a red. Two of my favorites to serve that are amazingly versatile are Chardonnay and Cabernet.

Rodney Strong Wines take the guesswork out of selecting wine. These Sonoma Wines are at an affordable price point but offer unparalleled flavor and sophistication to add to your Thanksgiving feast.

2. Cooking Hacks

No matter how you travel, space is at a premium. My husband and I are foodies and living in our RV have been challenging in regards to everyday meal prep. Let alone prepping a holiday meal.

But we’ve learned to utilize tools and cooking hacks to make meals delicious in less time and with fewer tools. Some of these hacks we’ll continue to use even when we have unlimited space because they’re just that helpful.

One of those things is using Dorot Gardens in place of fresh herbs. These herbs and seasonings are frozen and are individually portioned.

Now you don’t have to worry about them going bad before you can use them. Another benefit is you can always have your favorite flavors on hand without worrying about supply chain issues.

3. Snacks

Snacks are perfect to bring along while traveling to your destination and while you’re enjoying your holiday.

I love keeping a mix of pre-packaged on hand for quick appetizers. You can mix and match elements to make a charcuterie-type appetizer experience.

Go for a mix of salty and sweet items to hit the palate on every level. Then, add in some fresh ingredients to complete the appetizer.

My favorite nuts right now are Franks Red Hot Sauce Almonds. These versatile almonds check the boxes for crunchy, salty, and a little spicy using my favorite wing sauce.

Bringing cookies while traveling can be tricky because they’re often delicate and break easily. That’s not so with Dewey’s Cookies.

These cookie thins are packaged in tins to make them perfect for travel. They’re exceptionally thin and have unique flavors making them an elevated choice of cookies for an appetizer board.

4. Inspiration

You don’t have to start at square one when creating a Thanksgiving experience on the go. Use Pinterest or a book like the Friendsgiving book to make entertaining easier.

Friendsgiving: The Official Guide to Hosting, Roasting, and Celebrating with Friends by Shoshana Stopek is an all-in-one resource for Thanksgiving. It gives you recipes, activities, and hosting tips for creating memories inspired by the show Friends.

5. Disposable/Resusable Items

There’s no need to bring your fancy china or ceramic serving dishes when you’re celebrating holidays away from home. Go with plastic, lightweight, and disposable items. Bonus, for items that can pull double-duty and be used multiple times during your trip.
