Would you like to recharge before the busyness of the holidays? Would you like to reconnect to your husband before the season pulls you in different directions? Would you like to know how to keep your family healthy so you can? Let’s talk about the perfect pre-season romantic getaway plan!

I told y’all back in June about how long The Water Man and I waited to have our first over night after having kids. And while waiting those 4 long years made sense for our family then, now that we’ve had one, we want them all the time! My mom comes in town once a month and we get a date night. Since June, we have made as many of those dates into over nights as we could, thank God for Nanas! But during the holidays, we know the getaways just aren’t possible. Everyone is too busy and we have plans nearly every weekend starting at Thanksgiving. So this year we decided to get a pre-season getaway to reconnect, recharge and gear up for the holiday craziness!

When my husband and I first talked about this date night, I was so excited. I started thinking about different ideas and what kind of overnights we have so far and then I remembered the ones we’ve had to cancel and why. Both of the overnights we have canceled this year were because someone was sick and it wasn’t the kids! We are already entering flu season and I would hate to have to cancel our last date night of the year because I can’t keep the people around here healthy!

I had just dropped off my oldest at school when these thoughts occurred to me so I made a quick decision to hit up my local Walmart while I was out. I knew I would be able to find everything I needed for my pre-season getaway, all the cold and flu fighting agents I could enlist to keep my family healthy and any extra goodies I might need to prepare!

After lots of shopping with my Wildflower in tow throwing everything she could reach into the basket, I realized I had everything I needed and I had stumbled upon the perfect plan to make my overnight dreams come true! I won’t go into all the details, but I will say my plan worked! And it can work for you to, so take these strategies and make your own plans for a romantic pre-season getaway! Trust me, you will be singing Joy To The World in no time. Ok maybe not singing, but in the very least you will be SLEEPING IN!!! And sleeping in is JOY!

Keep Your Family Healthy

I don’t want anyone picking up any germs they can’t fight off so I make sure everyone has access to hand sanitizer at all times and the grown-ups have Emergen-C. If any of the sick germs gets past the sanitizer (insert toddler who explores everything with her mouth) then Emergen-C can help support our natural immunities. We have used it for years and I swear by it. On a side note, because it’s winter and who doesn’t like a hot beverage by the fire, I drink mine like hot tea with hot water and a mug. I just love the sweet flavors, raspberry is our family favorite! More Healthy Days, More Healthy Nights. Date nights!! Am I right!

Don't get sick before your trip. Boost your immune system with Emergen-C as part of this romantic getaway plan.

Leave The Sitter Prepared

We leave my babies with my mom, so I know she knows how to care for them even if they were to get sick. But I want to leave her prepared just in case. My family has sensitive skin and the winter months dry us all out so I leave all the kid’s evening staples like lotion and ChapStick Total Hydration to make them as comfortable as possible. I had to buy the littles their own ChapStick Total Hydration because they steal mine, but I feel good about it knowing it’s 100% Natural. I want the night to go smoothly and making sure they are well moisturized is a must for my babes in the winter. So in addition to all the emergency numbers, an antihistamine, access to a thermometer and fever reducers, make sure your munchkins have everything they need to tuck in happy!

Pack All The Date Night Essentials

Now that we’ve had a few romantic overnights, I have learned a thing a two about what I need! We are staying in hotels so I like to bring all of our essentials so that we are comfortable! It is so nice to think about my honey and I every now and then and not just the kids!! So I pack my make-up essentials for touching up before we head to dinner. I personally can’t live without powder, mascara and my ChapStick Total Hydration (by the way, I have to share my ChapStick with The Water Man too. He may have the driest lips of all working on the water in the winter!) Then I throw in our Emergen-C, some minty gum (your welcome dear) and some delicious smelling lotion. I swear some days I feel like smelling good is a luxury for busy moms, so this indulgence makes me feel beautiful! And finally because I have learned my lesson, I pack Advil Liqui-Gels. The Water Man has back pain and I have had joint pain since having the babies and neither one of us want our muscles or joints to act up and not have some relief, especially on date night! Come to think of it, I should probably leave Nana some magical Advil Liqui-Gels for the headaches she may face!

Our pre-season getaway was exactly what we needed to spend some rare quiet time together as a couple, to relax and to appreciate what’s important about the holidays. We’ve decided it’s going to be an annual event! I was so glad Walmart had everything I needed for the occasion. And that as a busy mom, I can always depend on Pfizer to keep my family healthy so we can enjoy all the fun of the season, including alone time with my man!

Do you have a romantic getaway plan during the holidays? There’s still time for romance, plan your pre-season getaway today!
