How to Live in the Judgement Free Zone

With the start of the new year comes a time for reflection. And a lot of conversations have come up recently on social about one word for the year.

I’ve really been struggling with coming up with just one word. It’s only the first day of the new year and I’ve already gone through a lot of words. But coming up with just one to embody the entire years seems nearly impossible.

This year to figure out my word I started brainstorming with my husband and instead of just focusing on the positive word to help shape my year, he suggested that even though it’s hard to identify my weaknesses, in order to make my word for the year use that weakness to create strength.

People look for one word that defines the trajectory of their entire year. Or, multiple words that not only help to shape my future year while combating against the negativity qualities that’s I’ve carried within the past.

So how do you learn How to Live in the Judgement Free Zone® in 2018?

Take a cue from the dogs.

And from them, I’ve come up with my word… judgement-free.

I want to live life not judging others, not feeling like they’re judging me, and to stop judging myself. This is in complete contrast to the way I usually feel. I always feel like people are watching and judging everything I do and I’m busy judging myself and others because of the crazy standards I set for myself.

My dogs are the least judgmental beings I can think of. They’re faithful while loving unconditionally and without judgement. This is good news for me as I’m pretty aware of my flaws and that I’m not always the easiest person to live with.

But dogs don’t care and continue to stay with you no matter what. Even when I’m in a mood, have an ugly cry, or bad breath – they love me for me. There’s no time limit on eating dropped food and napping midday every day is encouraged. We could all use a lesson in dog-like discernment on how to live life.

I want to see myself and others through the nonjudging eyes of dogs. Caring, selfless, loving, playful, and nurturing. All of the best qualities that we hope everyone sees, dogs see.

While living judgement-free is one of my personal goals, it’s also one of my health goals too. Unfortunately, English Bulldogs are couch potatoes and after The Dude had knee replacement surgery two years ago and his cataracts have gotten worse over the years almost blinding him, he’s in no shape to be a workout buddy.

Since working out at home isn’t much of an option without sidewalks or a companion, I need to make a plan to accomplish my health goals in a Judgement Free Zone. I want to get in shape but I don’t want to break the bank or be limited by hours that don’t work for my schedule.

Lucky for me (and for everyone with a fitness related goal), Planet Fitness is making it easier than ever to achieve our goals in 2018. Right now they’re having a new membership sale where new members can join any location from January 1-10 for just a $1 enrollment fee and $10 month after that. I’ve been a member of several other gyms and have never paid that little for any membership let alone one that includes free group fitness training at clubs where most are staffed 24/7, complete range of brand name cardio and strength equipment, fully equipped locker rooms, flat screen TVs, and access to Planet of Triumphs which is an online community specially designed for members to help provide accountability, inspiration, and encouragement for one another.

As soon as my girls head back to school next week, I’ll be adding in trips to the gym as many times a week as I can fit in. I’m excited to accomplish goals for myself and set an example for my girls!
