Mother’s Day is rapidly approaching and I’m just now starting to plan. If you’re like me and running short on ideas to make the day special for your mom, grandma, mother-in-law, or wife then you need to start thinking about things far in advance. You’ll need time to plan and create the perfect gift and experience for her on her special day.
On some Mother’s Days we’ve gone all out and done a fancy brunch a restaurant on the water complete with mimosas and hand carved meats. But this year we’re going for something budget friendly but still memorable.
We’re going to do a brunch at home and with a Southwestern Cast Iron Skillet frittata and full spread of fruits and other meats to celebrate. But honestly, the meal? That’s the easy part.
What do you buy the mother in your life you’re celebrating that has everything and if she doesn’t already have it, could easily buy it for herself? It’s tough right isn’t it?
My moms (my mother-in-law is included in that) and grandmas decided several years ago that instead of giving each other Mother’s Day gifts, we’d instead deposit the money we would have spent into our girl’s 529 accounts for college savings.
This is a super-practical idea and has worked for so long but sometimes you just find a gift idea that is so perfect, you need a special occasion to gift it. So instead of that bag of soaps, I created this Mother’s Day Spa Gift Basket by upcycling a cheap beverage bucket into a stunning and useful container using gold spray paint. I’m the most uncraftiest of them all (some skill, eh) and I impressed myself with this one.
My mom’s always been a sucker for spa days (who isn’t?!) and this is a way for her to pamper herself even when she can’t make it to the spa and have someone else do the work for her.

- Versatile storage container. It’ll double as the gift bag for your “basket” but also be something your mom can use once all of her goodies are long gone.
