Ring Video Doorbell 2 Review: Top Tech Gifts this Christmas

The Ring Video Doorbell 2 review as an amazing wireless doorbell video camera and one of the best tech to gift this holiday season!

Our sponsor Best Buy has identified the coolest and best tech to gift this season and gave us a sneak peek of one of those items. Today we’re sharing our Ring Video Doorbell 2 review as an amazing wireless doorbell video camera and one of the best tech to gift this holiday season!

With the holiday season right around the corner, there’s going to be lots more traffic outside your front door. From packages being delivered to friends and family coming to visit (sometimes even unannounced), it’s a busy time. Not to mention the increase in theft during the holidays with all of those packages being delivered and vacations or shopping taking people out of town.

Wouldn’t it be nice to see who’s at your door from wherever you are? Now you can with the Ring Video Doorbell 2!

Up until this point I’ve never put a whole lot of thought into our doorbell. (Well, aside from yelling at the girls not to press it over and over again when they’re playing outside.) So why all the fuss about this particular wireless doorbell video camera?

The Ring is a wireless doorbell video camera that helps take your home security to the next level. It connects to your home Wifi network and allows you to keep an eye on your home with amazing 1080HD wide-angle video. Then, through mobile alerts you can get notifications for rings and/or motion outside your home sent directly to your cell phone.

More times than not, our delivery drivers don’t even ring the doorbell to let us know they’ve left a package. With the notifications I can get an alert that there’s motion at the front door and grab the package right away if I’m home. If I’m not, I’ll know that the driver was there and have a better chance of finding packages that may be hidden from passerby’s. It’ll also be handy when those climate controlled deliveries or things that shouldn’t be left in the heat too long like chocolate or makeup arrive, they’re not sitting outside any longer than necessary. You wouldn’t believe how warm it still is during the holidays in Austin.

The Ring doesn’t just act as a wireless doorbell video camera, you can also use the Ring as an intercom and have a two-way conversation with the person on the other side of the door. You can use the built-in microphone and speakers to fend off solicitors, authorize packages, or let someone know you’re there but it’ll be a few minutes before you can get to the door. I love this option because depending on who’s at the door, like the pest control company or my grandparents, I can get our dogs put away before answering yet they know that I’m aware they’re there and working to welcome them into my home.

But you don’t have to just wait for the Ring alerts to see what’s going on outside your front door. You can choose the “live view” option and see what’s going on outside your door any time. I like this feature because, while Brady’s now considered old enough by the school to walk her and Colby to the house from the bus stop, I know that accidents can happen. If I’m in the middle of making cookies, writing a blog post, or otherwise unable to peek outside, it’s nice to be able to turn on the live view and ensure they’re being responsible and are safely making their way home.

With the Ring app you can set motion zones and schedules for your life. The wireless doorbell video camera has six different zones and a range of up to 30 feet. So, if you live in an area where houses are closer together or on a busy street you probably don’t want your camera sending you an alert every time a car drives by or your neighbor walks to their car. Using the motion scheduling you can create rules to disable motion alerts during specific days or times.

Even if you have a monitored security system, the Ring is still a great addition to your home. While on vacation a couple of years ago, we had an early morning wakeup call from the sheriff’s office letting us know that our alarm was going off and they were at the house investigating. Our security system app showed that a glass break sensor had been tripped but the officer did not see any broken windows or anyone near our house at the time. Had we have had a wireless doorbell video camera then, we would have seen if someone had been on any side of our house as they would have had to run into one of the motion zones to get away…even though it was still dark because of the infrared night vision.

It’s no surprise that Best Buy has the Ring Video Doorbell 2 as one of their Top Tech Gifts this Christmas and I couldn’t agree more! This is a gift that’s practical and provides peace of mind…during the holidays or any time.
