What Would You Make Over?

This is a partnered guest post.

Bottle or breast? Cloth diapers or disposable? Public, private, or home school?

The experience of raising a child is so individualized that the only thing we can all agree on is that no two experiences are exactly alike. Being a mom changes so much in your life beyond the act of parenting.

We have the advantage of seeing the world through both our eyes and the eyes of our children. We can spot potential threats and dangers and still take time to feel wonder and awe at everyday experiences.

And just as it changes your way of thinking, motherhood also changes your body. Stretch marks, sagginess, and loose skin are all typical characteristics for women who have been pregnant.

But where they occur and to what extent vary widely from woman to woman. There’s no “right” way to approach your body after pregnancy, either. Whether you love it as it is or want to nip and tuck it back to its pre-baby state, the choice is completely yours.

But if you could make it over, what would you do? Although many women have heard of a surgery called the “mommy makeover,” not everyone knows it can be completely customized to suit the desires of each woman.

So if you were going to take the plunge, what would you makeover?

Breasts

Breasts go through so many changes both during and after pregnancy. So, breast-specific procedures are often on the “wish lists” of mommy makeover patients.

During pregnancy, the breasts typically enlarge and the areolas darken. Once breastfeeding is over, the breasts may return to their normal size. Or, even become smaller. Leaving behind excess skin that can cause a saggy appearance.

Breast augmentation can replace this lost volume. And a lift can raise them back to their perkier positions.

Many moms choose to get both of those treatments at once and studies have shown that’s a safe choice that produces beautiful results.

Body

Of course, when we think of changes related to pregnancy, most of us think of our abdomens. They expand amazingly when we carry our children, and they don’t always “bounce back” after birth, even with a stringent diet and exercise program. That’s because extra skin doesn’t go away on its own; it needs to be removed by a surgeon.

Tummy tuck surgery is a common component of mommy makeovers because it does just that. During the surgery, a plastic surgeon cuts away extra skin, repairs loose abdominal muscles, and even removes some abdominal fat for a completely rejuvenated midsection.

Another common addition is liposuction, which can be used to remove fat from lots of other areas of the body, from the ankles to the neck. According to the website of Dr. Michael Bogdan, a plastic surgeon who offers mommy makeover surgery at his Dallas-based practice, a breast procedure and tummy tuck are the most popular combination for mommy makeover surgery. However, they’re by no means the only option!

Don’t worry if you have lots of questions. Your plastic surgeon should be able to answer them all including can you get lipo while breastfeeding?

Other

Although there are limits to how many procedures you can undergo in a single surgery, your surgeon can work with you to develop a surgical plan that meets your needs, even if it’s a procedure that isn’t typically associated with a mother’s body.

For example, if you’ve always eyed rhinoplasty, or if you’ve been thinking of BOTOX, you may be able to undergo these procedures while you’re still under anesthesia for your makeover.

This will give you exactly the transformation you want. Adding non-surgical treatments is a big topic of discussion among users of RealSelf, a popular cosmetic enhancement forum.

Laser and energy treatments seem to be top choices. Check out my Cool Sculpting reviews to see what fat freezing can do for your body.
