How to Clean a Microwave

The microwave oven. For most people in our generation, they can't remember a time when they didn't have a microwave in their kitchen.

I actually remember going to the store with my parents and buying our first microwave. It was a huge, heavy beast of an appliance that transformed dinnertime in our house.

Instead of cooking, they didn't have to anymore, they just nuked it. For two working parents this was a game-changer. Frozen foods and canned soups quickly became my parent's meals of choice. And if they did happen to turn the oven on, the microwave was there to make sure all of the leftovers were used up.

Fast forward to today and microwaves are in almost every home. What used to be a luxury appliance is now a staple in the kitchen. And to show just how important microwaves are to Americans, most microwaves are built into kitchens and included as one of the standard appliances these days.

Now that my girls are getting older and getting more independent, the microwave has been their first introduction to cooking. With the push of a button, they can make their own oatmeal for breakfast or popcorn after school.

But with the girls using the microwave now, there ends up being way more splatters and splashes of food on the inside of the microwave. I don't know about you, but I don't have time to add another item to my kitchen cleaning to-do list.

2 Steps to a Clean Microwave

  1. Wet a kitchen sponge and place in microwave for 30 seconds.
  2. All to cool for 5 minutes and then wipe down inside quickly with paper towels.

That's it! And you're doing double-duty by sanitizing your kitchen sponge in the process.

An optional third step is to heat 1 cup of water with 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice. Either way, you do it, you'll have a clean microwave without any scrubbing or elbow grease.

Are you in the market for a new microwave? Now's the best time to get the latest in technology and design at Best Buy.

[…] Because the eraser is meant to scrub clean products, you have to get in there and work your eraser around the toilet. Might as well skip this one, and save your magic eraser for another mess or clean up around the home. […]
