Smart Home Cleaning Means Working Smarter, Not Harder

My husband and I both work from home full time. Add in two girls, three dogs, and life and it all adds up. We also decided to take on a side hustle this year…since April we’ve been AirBNBing out our house 1-2 weekends a month during the school year and weekly during the summer.

In total, we’ve rented out our home 20 times in 6 months. Saying it’s a lot is an understatement.

And when friends find out, we clean it ourselves too, they’re always shocked. Even friends that are also renting out their own house on weekends.

They’re always commenting on how they don’t know how we do it. They’ll say things about it being too much work and they’d never be able to do it themselves.

But guess what? It’s not nearly as bad or as hard as it sounds. Sure it’s a lot of work that first day, but it’s not terrible.

So how’s that possible? Well, when the entire family pitches in, we can actually get things turned over pretty easily. But that alone doesn’t do it all.

If you were to think of the biggest cleaning job you have, what would it be? For me (and I would assume most people), it’s the floors. They cover the entire surface of the house and they have to be cleaned.

Floors aren’t like walls where you just spot clean them as needed. It’s obvious when the floors aren’t cleaned and have to be done on a regular basis.

We have concrete floors on the entire bottom floor of our home. No tile or wood down here. We also have a large 11×14 area rug in our living room too. So without a robotic vacuum, that’s a lot of switching tools to get the floors done. At minimum a vacuum and mop, but also likely a microfiber sweeper to get in the nooks and crannies too.

The entire second floor and the stairs leading up there are wood floors. And another area rug, this one more manageable at 5×8 but still something that requires multiple tools.

My solution? Well until last year when I got a robotic vacuum it was using all of those tools. With the robotic vacuum, I was able to set schedules and/or start the vacuum with an app on my phone.

But you know what I couldn’t do? Actually use the scheduling function on my phone. That’s because you have to put this other little device down to create barriers. Closing doors or moving it from place to place. And even with all that, the old vacuum still ran into the dog bowl.

Do you know what else I couldn’t do? Take the robotic vacuum upstairs. It would have plummeted down them and damaged the vacuum. That means when I cleaned the floors upstairs I’d have to haul up three different tools to get the job done.

With my newest smart cleaning tool, the ECOVACS Deebot Ozmo 950, I only need one device to clean all of my floors!

Why is the Deebot robotic vacuum that much better than my old robotic vacuum? Because it does all of the things that I was using three tools for! With the two-in-one mopping and vacuuming, I can clean and mop my floors at the same time. And transitioning between surfaces is easy because there are three levels of suction.

The Deebot Ozmo 950 is the thinnest design yet, so that means I can ditch all the tools because it’s getting in those hard to reach areas. Plus, the battery lasts up to 3 hours!

The only real downside I can find is that it’s not yet able to connect to your WiFi over a 5GHz connection. It isn’t an issue if you do separate your networks, but if you don’t you may have an issue. Fortunately, my husband’s super geeky and we were able to get it over to the 2.4 GHz access point we have for things just like this.

The Deebot also makes cleaning the floors everywhere in the house, not just downstairs easier too. That’s because it has a multi-floor mapping and smart home capabilities. Y’all know how much I love to have my personal assistant Alexa do for me. But even if your assistant is Google, the Ozmo 950 will work with that too. So as soon as we walk in the front door from a trip, while we’re stripping down beds Alexa can put the Deebot to work cleaning the floors.

Bonus: this ECOVACS robotic vacuum comes with the spare parts that are most prone to wear out like the brushes, filter, and debris lid!

When the cleaning’s taken care of, I can spend more time with my family and dogs. And with the ECOVACS Deebot Ozmo 950, I’m working smarter not harder. Whether we’re hanging out together at home or traveling, I don’t have to spend any more cleaning than absolutely necessary.

How can the Deebot Ozmo 950 help you get more me time?!
